Interactive Geo Map Integration

Client Goals:

This project was to create an online Geo map for 1500 international members in a DC based nonprofit affiliation to Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The goal is to easily locate and connect with retired colleagues across the globe while on travel or otherwise. A display of a world map with location markers was required to accomplish this task. In addition, client expected the contractor to build an easily manageable map so its employees can easily update the map regularly.

Our Contributions:

A visual world map displaying the “name” and “location” of these members was created with the searchable city, state and country filters to easily locate the members. Combination of WordPress platform and plugins were used together with Google map related APIs. The map was integrated in the current environment. The challenge was to attain location accuracy especially among the international locations that are not recognized by a standard address format. Hence, necessary customized coding was utilized to achieve exact or approximate locations.
